Conservative mega-bitch Ann Coulter tweeted the above tweet last night after Pres. Barack Obama schooled Mitt Romney in the third and final presidential debate. Ann Coulter saying something reprehensible is nothing new. She's a publicity whore. She says outrageous things for the sole purpose of getting herself media attention. It nearly always works. I generally ignore her, but this particular tweet stood out for two reasons.
For one, calling someone a "retard" is problematic for me. People who are mentally retarded are good and nice people. They can't help the fact that they were born different, and they struggle throughout their lives to fit in and be accepted. It is wrong to call someone a "retard" in any context, let alone calling the President of the United States that.
The second reason it stood out is because there was no condemnation of the remark/tweet by Sarah Palin. You may remember that Palin is the parent of a retarded child, and has openly criticized people Democrats who have used the word "retard" as a slur. You may recall back in early 2010 when former White House chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel, called liberals who planned to launch primary challenges against conservative Dems, "fucking retarded." In a Facebook post (Sarah's chosen medium when not on Fox News), Palin called for Emanuel to be fired for saying what he said. Here is part of the post:
“I would ask the president to show decency in this process by eliminating one member of that inner circle, Mr. Rahm Emanuel, and not allow Rahm’s continued indecent tactics to cloud efforts. Just as we’d be appalled if any public figure of Rahm’s stature ever used the 'N-word' or other such inappropriate language, Rahm’s slur on all God’s children with cognitive and developmental disabilities – and the people who love them – is unacceptable, and it’s heartbreaking.”
Rahm Emanuel subsequently apologized. It has been nearly 24 hours since Ann Coulter's tweet (which has been retweeted by over 2,000 assholes), and there has not been either a criticism/condemnation of Coulter from Sarah Palin, nor an apology from Coulter.
So what's the deal Ms. Palin? Why were you "appalled" by Rahm Emanuel, but you have no problem with the same words coming from Ann Coulter? Wasn't Coulter's tweet a "slur on all God's children with cognitive and developmental disabilities" and "unacceptable"? Or is it okay when Republicans do it?
There's a word for behavior like yours, Ms. Palin....hypocritical.
