"To be clear. I believe in evolution and trust scientists on global warming. Call me crazy." - Jon Huntsman, Republican candidate for President via twitter. Clearly, these sane and rational views put Huntsman at odds with his party. There is zero chance a sane person will get the Republican nomination this time around.

I don't quite live in Mormon country, but I live on the edge of it and have known many LDS members throughout my life. I have found that while they tend toward extreme political conservatism, they also have a high respect for science and for education. In general, they do tend to trust science. Glenn Beck is a Mormon, but he is not a poster boy for Mormonism. Romney and Huntsman and former Oregon Senator Gordon Smith are closer to the mark... polite, friendly, and ready to admit there is such a thing as free will, and that it can coexist with religion. Smith and Orrin Hatch were not altogether against stem cell research when there was all the Dumbya fury about that...
Yes, Huntsman is definitely more sane and rational than some of the other simian types representing his party. And I agree with your assessment about the chance of there being a sane and rational GOP nominee for President. Sigh...
