Why Do These Ladies Think Women Should Not Be Allowed To Drive?

Republican Senators Hutchison, Ayotte, and Murkowski
Fourteen female US Senators recently signed a letter protesting Saudi Arabia's prohibition against women driving. Saudi Arabia is the only country on the planet that bans women from driving. The Saudis have made past commitments to easing the restrictions, but have not followed through. It seems almost unbelievable that the US would be allied with such a backward country. Oh yeah, they have oil. So, I guess everything else (like the Saudi's financial support for the 9/11 hijackers) can just be overlooked.

The letter reads, in part: “As you know, Saudi Arabia is the only country in the world with such a ban on women driving, and maintaining such a restriction stands in stark contrast with the commitments your government has made to promote the rights of Saudi women.”

Fourteen female Senators signed the bill, but three did not. Sens. Kay Bailey Hutchison, Kelly Ayotte, and Lisa Murkowski (all Republicans) all refused. I guess they are okay with women being denied basic human rights. It is really sad when the politics of oil get in the way of one's basic belief in human rights.
