Here's a fun fact. Only five states in America ban collective bargaining for teachers. In those five states, here are how their students rank in national SAT/ACT scoring:
50th - South Carolina
49th - North Carolina
48th - Georgia
47th - Texas
44th - Virginia

Wow! That is quite a leap, Dave. That is the very definition of a straw man argument.
Teachers get paid the worst in certain states due to a denial of their right to unionize (which would keep many qualified professionals out of the teaching business). In those states, the students have the lowest test scores. There are other factors, sure, but this is hardly a straw man argument.
When conservatives value teachers in the same way they value hedge fund managers and oil CEOs maybe I'll take education arguments from the right more seriously.
