Today's Must See Music Video: Soul Asylum

Today's video is from legendary Minneapolis band Soul Asylum. SA is a band I started listening to in 1988 while in high school. From 88-91, I saw the band 14 times, and loved every show. I find it incredibly disappointing that most music fans don't know the band's music from that period, and only know its more mainstream material from 1992 and beyond. Soul Asylum went from being one of the most unsung bands of the 80s to one of the most popular bands of the early 90s. Sadly, the band's creative and commercial peaks did not come at the same time.

Trust me when I say you must look into those 1980s Soul Asylum records. This video shows the band performing the song "Marionette" on an unknown television show back in 1988. The song is from Soul Asylum's 1988 album, Hang Time.

Wow. You're right. Such an easy band to dismiss if you aren't a long time fan or familiar with their early career. Remember The Rat, April '91? :) I still have video footage from that show, and that trip.....

That was a great show, but in retrospect, it was the beginning of the end for the band.
