DADT Repeal Vote Fails 57-40

The vote to repeal Don't Ask Don't Tell, the military's ban on allowing openly gay service members, failed 57-40 in the Senate today. 57-40. Did repeal have the "40," you might ask? No, ending the ban got the 57 votes, and retaining the current policy got the 40. The losers win.

Does anyone even remember when we had majority rule in the United States Senate?
