The Quiet Weekend Begins

Tomorrow is National Record Store Day, so I hope you are planning on hitting a participating store tomorrow and spending a buck or two. There are hundreds of limited edition releases that will only be available at this event. In many locations, there will be bands performing or signing autographs (like in Knoxville, where Wilco will be).

Beyond that, I am expecting a quiet weekend. There are no decent shows to speak of in Omaha, but that will change next week with concerts from M. Ward and The Thermals. Both artists' new records are really, really great, by the way.

I have my radio show on Sunday night at 9 pm Central (streaming at 897theriver.com). Listen in. You might like it.

I wasn't able to wait until next weekend to go to Music Millenium in Portland to get Silversun Pickup's "Swoon". Talk about ear candy... ! Wonderful stuff. Different from their last one, but still very nice! The new one by Doves is quite nice as well. I'll be seeing both those bands, along with Sun Kil Moon, Explosions In The Sky and others at Sasquatch at The Gorge over Memorial Day weekend... can't wait!

I like the Thermals, the single from their new CD is good, I'll check out the rest of it! I saw them around the time of their first CD when they warmed up for Guided By Voices in a Portland club. Great high energy!!

I haven't listened to M.Ward that much, but he will be at Sasquatch this time. So will Bon Iver (I love the song "Blood Bank"!)

I liked St. Vincent at Sasquatch, and The Hold Steady were great there too.

Isn't music great!!? 8-)

That new Doves has been getting a lot of play in my ipod. Haven't heard the entire Silversun record yet. It is supposedly sitting in my mailbox at the radio station. I'm so pissed.

I'm not sure how M. Ward will do in a festival setting, definitely check him out. But The Thermals...wow. Lovin' the new one. Very excited about seeing them again.
