Ron Asheton, guitarist with the legendary band
The Stooges, died this week in his home of an
apparent heart attack.
Asheton played on three of the most important and influential rock albums of all time:
The Stooges,
Fun House, and
Raw Power. After playing guitar on the first two
Stooges albums, he switched to bass when the band became
Iggy & the Stooges and recorded
Raw Power. The band broke up in 1974.
The Stooges reformed in 2003 and
Asheton returned to guitar for the band's reunion album,
The Weirdness, and its subsequent world tour. He will be missed.
