Thanksgiving Weekend Preview

I am sooooo glad to have the long holiday weekend coming up, I can't even tell you. It's not like I've been working super hard lately. In fact, business has been extremely slow. But with the slowdown comes an increase in stress over my financial future. I'm taking a huge hit this month, and probably for the next two or three months, as well. I really need a fun few days to get my head right and decompress.

Last night's Sebastien Grainger show was excellent. He was amazing. The first opener, Ladyfinger (ne) played a lot of new material from their forthcoming second album. The new stuff wasn't nearly as heavy and aggressive as their earlier output. It seemed more melodic (especially in the vocals) and slower. I'd imagine that is due to the influence of their second guitar player, Jamie, who was not in the band when the first album was initially written. It seemed okay, but I miss the more aggro Ladyfinger. I'll have to see how the record turned out before rendering a verdict on the band. The second opener, Josh Reichman, sucked. I won't get into it any further beyond that. I think the crowd was with me, though, as a lot of people went outside to smoke during his set.

Tonight, I am scheduled to do some wine drinking at Cork & Barrel with some friends. For them, it's an annual tradition to go there the night before Thanksgiving. This will be my first time there. Truth be told, though, I drank a good bit last night and may not be up for another night of it. We'll have to play this one by ear.

For turkey day itself, I'll be at the folks' house for an early dinner. I may go check out Jeremy Enigk at Slowdown afterwards, but that tryptophan in the turkey could cause me to reconsider.

I have a party to go to on Saturday night, so most of the weekend is pretty well accounted for. I promised a "special" show for Sunday night, but I have yet to determine what that will actually mean. I'm working on my Top 50 albums of 2008 list for a two part show/podcast, but that is for next month. Any ideas for a theme for my "special" show. I didn't think so...
