The two competing for the Democratic nomination for the 2nd Congressional District in Nebraska, Jim Esch and Richard Carter, will be debating tonight at 6 pm. The debate will be aired on Cox Cable channel 22 in Omaha.
Ordinarily, these contests only determine who will get beaten in the Fall by the Republican. But this year just might be the year we topple Lee Terry. He is a very weak candidate, and should have been beaten in '04. Jim Esch came as close as anyone could have. But it wasn't close enough. He got zero help from the national party.
This year it could be different as Democrats nationwide seem to be loaded down with excess money, and the GOP is in the midst of a major recession. Whoever the Democratic nominee winds up being, hopefully some of that money will be hitting Omaha. This could become a big blue patch in an otherwise red state.
