As you might have surmised from reading this website, I am not an especially religious person. I am Jewish, but I only really consider myself to be culturally or ethnically Jewish. I don't have much use for or interest in the religious aspects of Judaism, but nonetheless, I consider myself a proud member of the tribe.
Having said all that, I still understand an offensive remark about Jews when I see one. The offender this time around -- Ann Coulter. On CNBC's The Big Idea, she stated multiple times that the US should be a "Christian country" that all US citizens should be Christians, and Jews need to be "perfected" by becoming Christians.
The show's host, Donny Deutsch, is Jewish, and he did not let Coulter simply get away with saying such bigoted comments. He followed up with, "Ann Coulter, author of If Democrats Had Any Brains, They'd Be Republicans, and if Ann Coulter had any brains, she would not say Jews need to be perfected. I'm offended by that personally." He then went into a break.
After the break, Deutsch gave Coulter a chance to "revise" her remarks. She chose not to, and dug her hole a little bit deeper. Read the transcript here.
I'm certain that Joe Lieberman will rush to Ann's defense being the good wingnut-suckup that he is. A person does not need to be especially religious or even Jewish to see how repulsive Coulter's comments are. Just par for the course with her, obviously, but how can any so-called Jewish Republicans keep defending and endorsing her? Do you have any pride left? How can you continue to kiss up to the extreme right? They don't like you, they are just using you, my friends...
