A Conservative Against Don't Ask Don't Tell?

Did I wake up in bizarro world this morning? Former Congressman Bob Barr (R-GA), one of the impeachment managers of President Clinton, has come out against "Don't ask, don't tell." This is my favorite quote of his, "Conservatives are supposed to favor meritocracy — rewarding ability — especially in the armed forces. Instead, the military is firing badly needed, capable troops simply because they’re gay, and replacing them with a hodge podge that includes ex-cons, drug abusers and high-school dropouts."

Though he will never be completely forgiven by me for spearheading the ridiculous, partisan witch hunt (otherwise known as the impeachment of a president for getting a blow job); over the last few years, Barr has been slowly redeeming himself. He's been good on civil liberties and has called out the administration on their never-ending quest to take them all away. I have to admit that this one is pretty shocking to me.
