It used to be a tough call to make as to whether
John McCain was either senile, delusional, or an outright liar, but he is definitely not very connected to what the rest of us call "reality." Watch
this video (at
Crooks and Liars) where
John W. McCain tells CNN's
Wolf Blitzer that Baghdad is not only safe enough for Americans to walk around un-protected, but that US Commander
General David Petraeus cruises the streets of the city without an armored Humvee. When
Blitzer questions
McCain's statements,
W. McCain tells
Blitzer that he needs to
"get up to speed" on what is happening in Iraq. After
McCain is done,
Blitzer asks CNN's
Michael Ware (who has been in Iraq day in and day out for the last four years) to fact check
McCain's statements. Suffice to say,
McCain's claims are quite "factually challenged" and
Ware says his military sources laughed at
McCain's claims.
“To suggest that there’s any neighborhood in this city where an American can walk freely is beyond ludicrous. I’d love Sen. McCain to tell me where that neighborhood is and he and I can go for a stroll.”
It is either hilarious or sad how wrong
McCain is. Again, is
McCain lying or just delusional? I'd say lying.
UPDATE (3-28-07): Today on CNN John W. McCain
denied that he ever said any of that despite the fact that it was just yesterday that he said it...on tape.

Yeah...I pretty much learned long ago that listening to Republicans as far as safety goes: Not a good plan. Like that time I heard Ted Haggerd tell me it was safe to wear a thong in a gay bar, or when Drudge Said I wouldn't need a canteen in Arizona...I could go on, but lifeguards they are not
